Adam's Cycling Photos in Burgundy
Submitted by Administrator on Tue, 11/24/2009 - 09:10There are a lot of cool photos in the series but as often happens the person we most want to see tends to be the person taking the photos. Fortunately someone took this exceptional picture of Adam.
New Mailing List and how to convert and/or sign-up

So, I cut and pasted the 49 email addresses into the Google Groups "invite" box, and got a message saying that Google was going to have to review the list to make sure that I'm not spamming anyone.I was allowed to provide a rationale for my invites, and told them that it's a 13 year old list moving to Google Groups; we're all old friends; you're all waiting on the invites, and we've never had anything to do with spam. Here's hoping that Google will see fit to approve this in a timely fashion, but, hey, I'm paying nothing for their service.
So, in the meantime, you are all welcome to browse to:
http://groups.google.com/group/orcassians
And request an invite, if you don't feel like waiting for the one I'm hopefully mailing you. I'll approve those as they come in (if I'm awake).

For better or worse you need a Gmail account to access the Google Group. Fortunately it's a) easy to get a Gmail Account and b) once you've got it you can enter your real, regular, preferred, possibly non-Gmail email account as your login account. Here's Peter on how that works.
1. Log onto the Group web page: http://groups.google.com/group/orcassians
2. From the upper-right hand corner of the screen, click on "My Account"
3. Under "Personal Settings", there's an option called "Email Addresses",
with an "Edit" link. Click "Edit"
4. Under "Add an alternate email address to your account" add your pesonal email address, then click "Save".
5.Look in your personal email for a verification email, and click on the
link in that email to verify that you're adding the address. You'll have to
sign in to your Google/GMail account to verify.
6. Go back to http://groups.google.com/group/orcassians
7. Click on the "Edit My Membership" menu item (on the right).
8. There should be a drop down list under the "Which address do you want to
use for this group?"question. Select your personal address and click "Save
these Settings".
Note: these instructions worked for me.

Old Orcas Email Alias is expiring soon, new one in the works.
Submitted by Administrator on Fri, 11/20/2009 - 22:20Due to circumstances beyond our control our old Orcas Island mailing list at savagesoft.com is expiring. Peter Campbell is creating a new one on Google Groups.

Hello,
I will not be able to host the listserv due to changing email providers. This is due to problems with the email service provider I have been using for years.
Peter Campbell [redacted] will be taking over and hopes to have the list backup in a week if not sooner.
I am sorry for this quick change, but I am not getting email through savagesoft.com and must take immediate actions since for over 10 years I have been using that address.
Email sent to orcas96@savagesoft.com for a while will go to the list as this change happens. After the change it will be forwarded to personal mail box.
Shortly thereafter Peter Campbell wrote:
Further to Paul's message, a few things:
My email is actually [redacted]. I'm subscribed to this list with an old address that I use for very little besides this list.
I'm setting up a new list using Google Groups, which is simple and suitable. Here are some details:
* Group name: Orcas
* Group home page: http://groups.google.com/group/orcassians
* Group email address orcassians@googlegroups.comPaul is sending me the current subscriber list, and I'll be sending invitations to each of you to join the new group. So, you don't have to, but, if you want to, it will be easy.
The new group is set up like the old one:
Messages come by email (you can probably ask it to send them all in one email per day);
It's by invitation only, so strangers can't see the messages or join the group. I'll approve new members only if I get an email from a current list member asking me to;
The Google Group comes with a web version of the list that we can upload files and (probably) pictures to.
I want to publicly thank Paul for 13 years of excellent service! And I look forward to seeing all of you at the new address.
I'll post information about how current mailing list members can migrate to the new list as well as how newcomers can ask to be added.
